About The Artist

New York born and based artist Fumero is known for his bold, color-driven style that merges graffiti, abstraction, and fine art — a visual language he coined Grafstract, the central “ism” and the mechanics of Fumeroism. Since launching his street art career in 2006, Fumero has become a defining voice in contemporary urban art, transforming city walls and galleries alike with his vivid, character-driven work.

In 2010, Fumero introduced Grampa — “the face that launched a thousand wheatpastes.” First appearing on New York streets, the character soon went global through murals, posters, and stickers, symbolizing, resilience, and an immigrant heritage. The name #GrampaCity, created in 2012, reflected both the artwork’s citywide presence and the artist’s nod to Planet of the Apes’ “Ape City,” blending pop-cultural commentary with street wit.

In 2015, Grampa reached monumental scale with a four-story mural in Yonkers, NY, replicating Fumero’s 2005 acrylic painting. Visible from the train station platform, it remains a local landmark at the DMV featured by NBC Channel 4 News and the Westchester Guardian.

Inspired by his Italian-born grandfather — a World War II US veteran and proud New Yorker — Fumero infuses every piece with narrative and humanity. His work has appeared in galleries across the U.S. and through collaborations with brands such as Absolute Vodka, Dutch Masters Cigars, Blue Man Group, Spike Lee Productions, Black Tap, and Global Street Art (UK) and Starl Land (FN). A fumeroized mural can be seen today on the casino floor inside the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, NV.
